The greek society… what can we say about it? It was a very precious and wealthy time for the history and for the whole human developemnt.
We can we highlight the influence of the homeric poems in the formation of the greek man. The effect that is perceived in the greek`s way of organization and position themselves and also internationally, in the politic, economic, socially and foremost in the military education. Odyssey, for exemple, has your importance in the formation of the Greek man, since the children were educated, initiated in reading and writing through the Iliad and Odyssey. Accordingly, the child grew, reading the achievements of Achilles in the war and the strategies of Odysseus to win the war and return to Ithaca. The Greek man (especially Athenian) grows with the desire to be a hero, as in the Homeric works. This encourages you to train to fight in defense of their city and conquer other cities. The Greek spirit is a warrior spirit. The Spartan youth, for example, regarded citizens aged 18 years, if son of Spartan parents, is a warrior. It is important to mention that the Spartan defends his city in a physical sense, but with equal or greater force to defend their nationality. On the other hand Civilian life of Athens was really different from living the Spartan military.Athens was a city of the arts, located in the small peninsula of Attica. Since the days of old, its inhabitants indulged in shipping, and contact with other people of early civilizations developed and learned the elements of a higher spiritual and material life. Both cities lived in conflict. The Peloponnesian War was an armed conflict between Athens (civilizational and political center of the Western world in the fifth century BC) and Sparta (city-state of austere militaristic tradition and customs). His story was recorded in detail by Xenophon TucĂdidese. According to Thucydides, the fundamental reason for the war was the growth of Athenian power and the fear that such an awakening among the Spartans. A very distinguished time in this civilization were the “Golden Age”, which brought such enormous changes in our society as great monuments, art, philosophy, architecture and literature that were the basis for our own civilization. Among the artistic handicrafts left by the Greeks, the ceramic is that it has a greater emphasis because it was a good first need the multiple functions that had (housework, craft and commercial uses, and supporting religious funeral) .The their study is, among all the other Greek arts (architecture and sculpture) that best documents the evolution of Greek plastic and also the history of Greece political social, and cultural. And it also goes through five phases. We may say that not only has Greek pottery given us some of the most distinctive, influential, and beautiful shapes and designs of antiquity but it has also given us a window into the lives, practices, and beliefs of a people long gone and of whom we very often have no contemporary written record. These everyday objects, unlike those other archaeological survivors literature, sculpture, and architecture, allow us to feel a little closer to the ordinary people of the ancient world, those who could not afford fine art or precious jewellery but could indulge in possessing a finely made object such as a Greek vase. As Protagoras said, "Man is the measure of all things; of what is, that it is; of what is not, that it is not." it contains the essence of the entire thought of the sophists. By "man" he did not mean humankind at large. He meant the individual person. By "measure of all things," he meant the standard of the truth of all things. Each individual person is the standard of what is true to himself. There is no truth except the sensations and impressions of each person. The earlier Greek philosophers made a clear distinction between sense and thought, between perception and reason, and had believed that the truth is to be found, not by the senses, but by reason. He also makes a association with the sculptures, where those symbolize and glorify their athletes, heroes and gods. We can conclude saying that the greeks influences in now a days in huge. The democracy, alphabet, mythology, science, math, the olympics, libraries, architecture and a lot of more! Can you imagine our society without those influences? I can’t… Some of the most common things influencing everyday life are things you would never think about as being Greek. Eating cereal is influenced by the goddess of grain, Ceres. Their influences matter and apply to our lives because everything has an origin that can be traced back to ancient times. As you can see, Ancient Grecee has had a variety of impacts on modern culture, even so you don’t see people running in togas we still learning the math that came from that time period, Greece has influenced many of our everyday lifestyles. What Greek elements have influenced you today?
